Getting Started

1 Turn on your computer and wait for windows to boot up.
2. Place the diskette containing your media (digital photos, sound clips, etc)  in the floppy drive of the computer.
3. Click the start button.
4. Click "Programs" and then click the PowerPoint icon.
5. Select "Blank Presentation" and then click "OK".
6. The "Insert New Slide" menu appears.  Select the title slide icon and then click "OK". <<Title slide icon
7. A blank Title Slide should appear on the screen. If the the slide is not filling the majority of the screen you can click the "slide view" icon on the lower toolbar.   <<Slice view icon
8. Now, simply add title information by clicking in the title areas and typing your desired title.

 


At this point you may wish to choose a color scheme for your presentation. There are two ways to do this: (1) select a color scheme, or (2) select a design template. Either selection will choose basic color selections for the slide, titles, bulleted items, etc.  The major difference is that the presentation template usually adds additional graphic elements to the presentation and custom slide transitions. Both the color scheme menu and the design template menu are accessed as follows:
9. Click the "Format" icon, located on the toolbar.
10. From the drop-down menu select either, "Slide Color Scheme..." or "Apply Design Template...".

Follow the directions from the menus that follow.

Note: You can always undo your color/template selections by clicking, and then .


Congratulations!  You have created your title slide and picked a color scheme for the slide presentation.  Before going to the next section be sure to save your work.  (hint: Click the file save icon  )
11. Now you will want to insert your first picture slide.

Click  "Insert"

Click "New Slide..."



12. Click a layout for the slide. Be sure that your choice leaves room for the image!  For displaying photographs I often use the "title only" layout.

Click "Ok"


13. Your New slide appears.  Go ahead and title the slide.
14. To add a photograph:

Click "Insert"


15. Click "Picture" ... "From File..."
16. Click the pulldown menu labeled "Look in:" and select "31/2 Floppy (A:)"

 

17. A list of your files appears.  Select the one you want and then click "Insert".
18. Your picture appears on the slide.

If you picture appears too large (as illustrated here) you can click the image once to invoke "sizing handles on the corners of the picture.

The sizing handles may be dragged to resize the picture.  Note: To ensure proportional resizing,  hold down the "cntrl" key while using the sizing handles.


Picture Perfect! 

Repeat steps 11 - 18 to add more picture slides.

Don't forget to save your work!
